VW T5, T6 and T7 Campervan Windows: Finding the Right Supplier

· Mikey Roe

The right replacement window for your VW T5, T6 or T7 is one built specifically for your van’s generation, fitted with toughened safety glass and bought from a supplier who can actually answer your fitting questions. Get any of those wrong and you risk leaks, draughts, or a window that never quite sits flush.

If you’re converting a van, windows are one of those decisions that feels small until it isn’t. You’ve probably spent months planning the layout, picking materials and imagining what your finished camper will look like. The windows are the final step to make it feel real and what you’ll look through every single trip. They’re worth getting right.

Why Your Van’s Generation Matters

VW’s T5, T6 and T7 look similar from a distance, but not every window carries across between them. Most side windows will fit both the T5 and T6, but tailgate windows differ and the newer T7 is a different van altogether. A window built for the wrong van can look close enough in a listing photo and still sit proud, sit sunk, or leave you fighting the bodywork to get it to fit.

If you’re working on a T5, check the listing confirms it fits your van, especially for tailgate glass. Take a look at our T5 windows and T6 windows to see which fit across both. And if you’ve got one of the newer vans, T7 windows are still a smaller, newer market, which makes it even more important that whoever you buy from knows exactly what they’re supplying.

What to Look for in a Replacement Window

Two windows can look identical in photos and behave completely differently once they’re on your van. Toughened safety glass is the standard you should expect as a minimum, not something you pay extra for. Beyond that, think about tint level and privacy glass, both for comfort inside the van and for how the finished conversion looks once it’s done.

Seals matter more than most people expect. A poor seal won’t fail while you’re checking it over in the driveway. It fails weeks later, in heavy rain or on the motorway, once you’ve already committed to the fit and moved on to the next job.

Why Choose Camper Glass

Camper Glass is a family run business based in rural Leicestershire, in the heart of the East Midlands. Between the team, there’s 60 years of combined experience in the motor trade, alongside 15 years specifically supplying camper windows and a decade of hands-on fitting experience behind that. That’s not experience picked up from a catalogue. It comes from actually fitting windows into vans like yours.

That experience shapes how the business is run. Every item is kept in stock, so there are no lead times waiting on deliveries from elsewhere and you can order exactly what you need rather than being pushed into a bundle. Buy a single window or a full set. Choose your windows with or without a fitting kit, depending on how far along your conversion already is.

Camper Glass is based in Lutterworth, Leicestershire close to the M1, M69 and M6, so if you’d rather collect in person than wait for delivery, that’s an option too. And if you get stuck partway through your order or you’re not sure which window fits your van, the team is reachable directly through LiveChat, without having to submit a form and wait for a reply.

What to Check Before You Order

Before you buy, run through three things. First, does the listing name your exact generation and body variant? Side windows often fit both the T5 and T6, but tailgate and T7 windows need their own specification, and a listing that just says “VW Transporter window” without narrowing it down is worth being cautious about. Second, is the glass toughened and E marked? That’s a safety requirement, not a nice-to-have. Any supplier, such as Camper Glass, should confirm it without hesitation. Third, can the supplier actually talk you through fitting, or do they only sell? A supplier who understands the fitting process is one who’s thought about your window beyond the point of sale. You can speak to our expert team through our online chat service, over the phone on 0116 247 8156, or by emailing us at support@camperglass.co.uk with any questions you have.

Getting It Right the First Time

A window that’s wrong for your van rarely fails cheaply. It shows up as a leak that damages the interior you’ve spent weeks building, or as wind noise you notice on every trip afterwards. The time saved by ordering from a supplier who knows your van’s generation, and who you can actually reach if something’s unclear, is worth far more than the few minutes it takes to check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fit a T6 window on a T5 campervan?

It depends on which window you’re fitting. Most T6 side windows will fit a T5, but tailgate windows are the exception. The T5 and T6 tailgates have different panel apertures and curves, so a window built for a T6 tailgate won’t sit correctly on a T5, even though the two vans look alike from the outside.

Do I need to buy a full set of windows, or can I order one at a time?

You can buy exactly what you need. Camper Glass supplies single windows as well as full sets, so you’re not paying for more than your conversion requires.

Will my windows come with a fitting kit?

That’s your choice. Windows are available with or without a fitting kit, depending on whether you already have one or you’re starting from scratch.

How long will delivery take?

Camper Glass keeps all items in stock, so there are no lead times to wait out. If you order by 12pm Monday to Thursday, you’ll receive your delivery next day. If you’d prefer, you can also collect in person from Lutterworth, which sits close to the M1, M69 and M6.
