Sprinter conversion planning

Mercedes Sprinter window buying guide

Choose each pane by body shape, wheelbase, physical side and panel position. Compare fixed and opening options around your interior layout, and check rear-door and middle-panel fitment separately.

Confirm the fitment

Identify your Sprinter and each panel

A side-window fitment does not prove that every pane in the range fits your van. Match the exact body, wheelbase and position to the listing.

Find your fit

Check the wheelbase and panel on each example

The slider below excludes SWB models; the middle-panel pane has LWB and extended-body coverage. These are distinct checks. Confirm the exact side, body and selected option before ordering.

Sprinter questions

Window choice, body shape and fitting answers

Should I choose fixed or sliding glass for each position?

Fixed glass for a view and daylight

Fixed privacy glass suits positions where an opening is not needed. It does not provide an opening for fresh air, so plan ventilation elsewhere in the conversion. A fixed pane can work alongside a slider in another position. Check the actual dimensions, shape, side and vehicle compatibility before choosing a combination.

Consider where the view will be useful. A window beside an unobstructed seat may be valuable, while a panel hidden behind tall furniture has a different purpose. Decide this before cutting any aperture, and discuss the intended layout with your fitter.

Sliding glass for an opening section

A slider can suit a seating or sleeping area where you want an opening section. Check the mechanism, latch and finish on the exact listing, and allow space to operate it after blinds and furniture are installed. Close and secure it according to its instructions before driving.

The reviewed passenger-side sliding window is described as a recessed slider. Its compatibility text lists MWB, LWB and LWB+ vehicles, and it explicitly says it does not fit short-wheelbase models. This exclusion matters even if the general Sprinter year range appears to match your van. Confirm the corresponding driver-side product separately.

An opening pane is part of a ventilation plan, not a guarantee that the whole conversion has adequate ventilation. The fixed and opening comparison explains the shared window choices without replacing these vehicle-specific checks.

How do middle panels and rear quarters differ?

The passenger-side middle-panel fixed window is described for the panel above the sliding-door rail on LWB and extended-long-wheelbase models. That does not establish MWB or SWB compatibility. The catalogue also contains separate rear-quarter panes, so check the intended panel name as well as the wheelbase.

On a long conversion, it can help to sketch the side of the van and label each proposed pane. Mark where seating, a bed, storage and the sliding-door rail sit. Beside every product in the shortlist, write the side, panel and wheelbase. This reduces the chance of treating two similarly described side panes as the same item.

Do not translate a wheelbase label from another market into UK product compatibility without checking the body and dimensions. If your enquiry uses measurements such as 144 or 170 inches, give the team the vehicle details and photographs too. A familiar measurement is not a substitute for matching the actual product.

How do I choose the correct rear-door glass?

Rear-door products have narrower compatibility than some side windows. The catalogue has an older-shape rear-door pair and a separate newer-shape rear-door pair. Do not infer rear-door fitment from a side-window listing that covers a broader period.

For a van registered around the body change, send clear photographs of the rear doors before buying. Ask the team to confirm the correct pair and any features of the existing glass. If replacing factory glass, check whether you need features such as a heater or wiper arrangement. A privacy-glass description alone does not confirm them.

The reviewed rear-door listings describe standard privacy glass without the dot-matrix texture mentioned on some existing windows. Check the actual finish and product photographs if you are matching glass already fitted to the van.

Can I assume Sprinter and Crafter glass is interchangeable?

Some products in the Sprinter range also list compatibility with an earlier VW Crafter. This is a product-level claim, not a reason to treat all Crafter and Sprinter bodies as identical. Camper Glass retains a separate later Crafter and MAN TGE range.

For either vehicle, check the exact model, position and body shape on the listing. If the category heading and a product’s year wording leave you uncertain, resolve that with the team before ordering. Do not choose a pane solely because it appears in a combined category.

What do privacy glass and universal-window options change?

Privacy glass retains a view through the pane. With lights on inside after dark, it does not guarantee privacy. Plan blinds or curtains for sleeping and changing, and check that they leave access to an opening window’s latch. Read the privacy and blackout comparison for the shared principles.

The Sprinter category also lists universal windows in different sizes. These need a separate aperture, dimensions and installation check. “Universal” does not mean a direct replacement for every original vehicle pane. If you want a compact window beside a bed, ask your fitter to assess the intended panel and exact product before ordering or cutting.

How much fitting material should I allow for?

The reviewed Sprinter slider, middle-panel pane and rear-door listings say a fitting kit is not included. They recommend a double fitting kit per window to avoid running short of adhesive or primer. Check quantities with the team for your exact installation, especially when buying a pair. Do not assume that one kit automatically covers every pane in the order.

Confirm the adhesive system, preparation products and suitable trim with your fitter. Follow the relevant instructions for preparation, working conditions and curing. The fitting guide helps explain the process, alongside the instructions for your own glass and bonding materials. Inspect every pane, its edges and any opening mechanism before cutting or bonding.

Build your shortlist

Three ways to plan your Sprinter windows

  • An MWB conversion with a seating area: compare a compatible fixed or sliding front-side pane. Check the product’s wheelbase coverage and leave room to use the latch and blinds.
  • An LWB conversion with a long living area: assess the front-side, middle-panel and rear-quarter positions separately. A suitable middle-panel pane does not establish the fitment of the rear quarter.
  • A van with glazed rear doors: start with the rear-door shape and the features of the existing glass. Confirm the correct pair before selecting side windows to complement it.

These examples are ways to organise a shortlist, not tested packages. There is no single best arrangement for every conversion. Use the live listing for prices, selected options and stock availability.

Send Camper Glass the vehicle details, wheelbase, intended panel and physical side, plus photographs and your shortlisted product links. Explain whether the position needs daylight, a view or an opening section. For rear glass, include photographs of the doors and any existing features.
